ADSA 2021 presentation

The link below is a power point copy of the project I presented for the ADSA.

Summary:

  • logistic regression models used to model the information gathered in risk assessment surveys and how management practices are associated with bulk tank milk ELISA results
  • Crowding of the maternity pen was associated with an increased risk of having a bulk tank test positive in 2017
  • Farms that had calves born OUTSIDE of calving pens were more likely to have a negative bulk tank test in 2017
  • Farms that had more contaminated heifers and heifer environments were more likely to be positive on their bulk tank test in 2017

Take away:

While we typically advise producers to ensure calves are born in maternity pens, these pens must be kept clean. Calves born in crowded or contaminated environments may be at more risk for JD than calves born in cleaner or more isolated areas.
